Pearl
About the Piece Another beautiful fairy from the Gem Fae collection. A Bit About Opal A pearl is a hard, usually spherical object produced within the soft tissue of a living shelled mollusk. Just like the shell of the mollusk, a pearl is made up of calcium carbonate. The most sought after pearl is perfectly round and smooth, but there are many other shapes of pearls. The hgihest quality (produced in a natural way) pearls have always been valued as gemstones and objects of beauty since ancient times. Because of the value placed on this gem the word pearl has become a metaphor for something very rare, very fine, very admirable, and also very valuable. Pearls in folklore symbolize the Moon and water, the very centers of creation and the Universe. They also are thought to symbolize purity in mind and in beauty. Some believe they are good luck and pearls are said to attract love, money and protection.
